Apple iPad 3D Arrives 2011

It seems like all anyone is talking about these days is the iPhone 4 but all the attention will shift back to the iPad when Apple announces that the iPad 2 will actually be the iPad 3D!

Apple has already unveiled the first 3D iPad game, Flight Control HD which requires 3D glasses, but the rumor is that Apple is busy behind the scenes developing a fully 3D iPad. In fact Apple has already applied for several patents for 3D technology and Apple CEO, Steve Jobs, does not want to get left behind in the 3D blitz that is sweeping across the market. Panasonic and Sony are both launching 3D TV’s. Sony Playstation, Nintendo Wii and the Xbox are all developing 3D games to take advantage of the new TV’s. Panasonic even recently announced a 3D camcorder.

The iPad could easily use the same technology as the new Nintendo 3DS which brings you 3D without the 3D glasses. The Nintendo 3DS works by using a forced focus screen which sets 3D images when viewed from the correct angle. If the device is tilted one way or another the 3D effect ends. This allows handheld portable devices to be 3D without glasses, whereas TV’s, computers and movie screens require glasses because the users are all viewing from multiple angles.

The iPad is already expected to have a major overhaul between now and next year and Apple will be adding many of the features that have made their debut on the iPhone 4. For example, the next iPad will have the new aluminosilicate glass from the iPhone 4. Aluminosilicate glass is 20 times stiffer and 30 times harder than plastic. And most important of all it's finger print proof! Also a forward facing camera will be added to bring Facetime to the iPad. Facetime is the new video conferencing tool on the iPhone 4. And Apple is working on adding CDMA technology to the iPad so that the iPad will be compatible with Verizon when the device is opened up to other carriers.

While many were skeptical on how successful the iPad would prove to be, Apple sold over 2 million iPad’s in under 60 days. And Apple has proven to be a company that doesn’t rest on it’s success so we expect big changes next year.

Here are list of features rumored to make an appearance on the next generation iPad in 2011:

  • 3D Screen
  • Aluminosilicate glass
  • Camera
  • Front facing camera
  • Facetime
  • CDMA capability for the Verizon network
  • 4G network
UPDATE: LG has just announced they are launching the first 3D tablet, the LG G-Slate Tablet, this spring! The G-Slate will be an Android tablet with an 8.9 inch 3D display. It will also come equipped with a 3D camera! It will be capable of displaying 720p HD and 3D content and outputting 1080p HD and 3D content to TV's and displays, of course requiring 3D glasses. Not bad. Your move, Apple.

That would be epic. But what if they could do it like nintendo and make 3d without the need of glasses. I wrote a hub similar to this, except about the Nintendo 3DS. 3D is the future of technology and is still in its early stages. Can't wait to see what the future holds in the 3D world. Great Hub, and nice facts.

I can't decide if I would love this or hate it. On one hand 3D would be amazing for games and I'm sure some app developers would design some out of this world apps for a 3D device. On the other hand I think it would give me a headache.

But it would definitely have to not require wearing glasses just like the Nintendo DS to be appealing.

i think the very coolest 3d app would be google earth by far and to just sit there and spin kinda like the pic above. :)
